For anyone who didn't see, an anonymous blogger raises an interesting point: If Whistler arrives in Hobart first - which it may well do - will it be prepared to sacrifice its chances of winning the race overall by sending the whole crew up the mountain in order to win the Tilman Trophy? Or will they sacrifice the sailors' fitness training and just send Jacqui and Michael in order to post the fastest possible time and perhaps claim an overall win?
A very interesting debate.
However, Team Whistler would still win racing monohull division even if they sent the entire crew up the mountain... and really first in doesn't count that much any more now there are two separate divisions.
Sending everyone up would probably only add an hour to the total run time and they are about 30 nautical miles ahead of Haphazard, which is carrying injured runners...

How can they win monohull division by simply sailing into port? Dont their runners have to complete the leg and finish to win?

It will be a very hard decision for Team Whistler that will have to be made by the skipper as they cross the line and see how far back the next yacht is. My personal choice would be to go for the overall line honours as this is more prestigious for a small monohull. Deguello has found some wind and is now doing 8.1 knots around Cape Raoul and Visit Flinders Island is through the Denison Canal and will be closing the gap on Whistler.

Anonymous - yes, of course they have to complete the run. What I meant to say was that they're so far ahead of both other racing mono's - Don't Panic and Carey Hire - that they would have time to all run up and down before those two boats came in to Hobart.

I don't think Dave, Jory and Tim, won't have been running up the mountain every weekend not to do it again.
